Reading Incentives

Page history last edited by Jean Darnell 9 years, 8 months ago

So I've come up with some ideas to promote reading. They're as follows:

1.) Reading Punch Card: After reading 10 books, you become a member of GERC (rhymes with "jerk"). Students will receive a treat bag, certificate and "shout-out" during the morning announcements. Who know's perhaps we can even get some t-shirts.

2.) Book Trailers: I would love for students to make video book trailers that recounts the book, specific likes/dislikes in order to promote reading and put on the library website.

3.) Author visit: I'd take a poll in 3 categories: Favorite Author K-2, Favorite Author 3-4, Favorite Author 5th grade. Then, I would try to schedule an author visit and/or Skype. Perhaps we can determine in advance those authors that Skype or are coming to town and have a "read-athon" of their books.

4.) Reader of the Month

  • To keep the students hooked on reading, there will be reader's of the month.

  • Requirements: Read and check out at least 5 books within a month's time and give me a 2 minute book talk.

5.) Library Book Fair Nontraditional (like science fair, but ALL ABOUT BOOKS!)

  • Students will select their most favorite book and create a tri-fold poster board of their chosen book, which must include an author's biography, interest facts and explanation of the books important theme.

  • As a fair goes, there will be judging and the sky's the limit on creativity.
